A first Champ point for Caldy well done lads. I think it took Jersey more than a month to get their first.

I think all Clubs will be relatively happy with their opening day, other than Scottish, I dont know if they had their Quins lads or not, but a great start for Nottingham. Caldy will be happy with their start, and it seems Ealing have improved again as have Jersey. It will be a fantastic Season.
Run with it

CC is right, it took the Reds a while to settle at Champ level in 2012: 6 straight losses, the only pt being for 4 tries in a big defeat at Rotherham. But back-to-back home games brought 2 x W against Scottish & Albion, after which we were competitive & eventually secured our status with a game to play. With some exceptions, that’s been the general pattern since - eg Ealing struggled in 13/14 & ended up going back down.

I remember Pirates first season in the Champ (It wasn't called that back then I think). We lost quite a few games and didn't get out first win until we went to Coventry (at the old ground) and slogged out a win in torrential rain. We then kicked on and managed to get enough wins to stay up. Surviving the first season at this level is tough.

After a very close and tight first half, the YC against Donny cost us dearly as Ealing came out in the second half and capitalised - Donny then went on to give the powerful running backs of Ealing as much possession as possible by kicking (poorly) as much possession away as possible. Ealing managed this possession well and deserved to take the W. I hope we learn from those mistakes or it could be a poor season for the knights.

My honest view of Ealing is they are very much beatable, deny them the opportunity to dictate the play and the chinks in their armour will peel. A good strong team but not a team that is unbeatable.

Good luck all, looking forwards to another long drive to Hartpury next weekend.
Onward and Upwards C'mon Donny!

Could and probably should have been two points and with a bit better discipline and a smarter kicking game Caldy could have done better. A marker and clear areas to address for Caldy but some positives as well.

Hartpury and Caldy both played some decent rugby but also mistakes by both sides and by the officials

I think that any team can have a bad day, injuries, or weird selection, so I'm sure that a game or two will be dropped. However, looking at Ealing, I feel like the team is stronger or equal pretty much across the board compared to the squad last year. In particular, Jonah Holmes looks just as good as billed, Metcalf has impressed in pre-season and in the real world, and Tizzano has been very powerful. Really, it was the wings last year though where Ealing seemed to lack something last year, and I see that as having been sorted now.
