Why on earth are the Boxing Day fixtures not local derbies? It seems madness to see Doncaster traveling to London whilst at the same time Richmond will pass the Donny bus on the other side of the M1 as they travel to Nottingham. How come Ealing get Xmas off yet Jersey have to fly in-possibly on Xmas Day night - to Bedford? Ridiculous.

You can never please all teams. Everybody would want a home game?
Presumably Jersey would have the bye as they have no near neighbours and because of travelling difficulties?

Yes, no obvious local derby for the Reds, although Guernsey were doing well at level 4 prior to a recent wobble...
No flights in/out of Jersey on Xmas Day, squad will fly on match day.
Hartpury v Pirates is kind of a 'nearest club' (for the hosts) derby, while Cov/Ampthill are reasonably close... maybe you could have swapped the pairings in the other 2 games to have Mond/Exiles & Nott/Donny

Well if we have 14 teams next year, might get a few more local derbies.
Although, as was pointed out to me, Bedford v Jersey will get a bumper crowd. As will Bedford v Ampthill 15th January.

| Trophy CC, second oldest trophy. The contest is relatively new in rugby terms. But it was an amazing win for the Reds as an amateur side against a team full of semi-pro’s, on their own patch, when our 1st team had a home game. Immense defense throughout

Immense defense throughout | Fully agree mate one of the most competitive games I've watched in years - neither side gave an inch for the entire match and took no prisoners. I'd much rather see two evenly matched sides and a game that could go either way like that rather than a mismatch and a cricket score which one side wins easily.

The Boxing Day Blues match is almost a sell out was just 300 tickets left yesterday and a reduced capacity of 4,500 crowd with everyone requiring COVID passes.
It is £8 to watch from home https://bedfordrugby.co.uk/news/2021/12/live-stream-blues-v-reds-boxing-day" rel="nofollow - https://bedfordrugby.co.uk/news/2021/12/live-stream-blues-v-reds-boxing-day which seems a bargain and an opportunity for Jersey fans to still be able to watch.

I agree with Marigold that the RFU fixture secretary, or whoever dreams up the fixture dates, must live on a different planet. There appears to have been no thought whatsoever when lining up the fixtures for Boxing Day and New Years Day. And then they leave the following weekend totally blank!
Having said that, I really do fear for all these fixtures, especially at the likes of Bedford who will have 4,500 crammed in. I fear COVID will have its say. This will be such a shame as the Boxing Day atmostphere at Goldington Road is hard to beat. I was last there a couple of years back when they played Ampthill..... in a friendly. 5,000 spectators watched Ampthill eek out a narrow win. A terrific day.

Is this where we post our predictions?
Coventry 1-4 Ampthill. I don't think the As have ever won at Coventry, but I think the home team's injury problems presents Ampthill with their best chance ever. Bedford 5-2 Jersey. This is the pick of the day. If the weather is sunny, 4,500 fans should see a feast of 15 man rugby, with the home side winning a high scoring match. London Scottish 1-4 Doncaster. Doncaster are not so strong when they travel but I expect them to pull away in the last quarter. Nottingham 4-1 Richmond. This is the hardest one to predict but I am going for Nottingham to grind out a win. Cornish Pirates 4-1 Hartpury College. I wasn't overly impressed with the Pirates performance when they recently beat Ampthill but I think on their own patch they will have just enough to better the Hartpury mercenaries.

Coventry 4-1 Ampthill. two well matched sides I expect a handful of points in it either way. Bedford 3-3 Jersey. 28 points all would be good although in my dreams Blues miss a conversion and Jersey win by 2 points. Scottish 1-4 Donny This could go either way Exiles defence and starting forwards were totally committed at St Peter. Nottingham 4-1 Mond Should be a great contest but I just go for a home win by under 5 points Pirates 5-0 Pury - Pirates to claim top of the league spot at New Year - no pressure lads

Coventry 2 - 2 Ampthill. Going for a draw just because I cannot decide either way Bedford 5 - 2 Jersey. bedford gain advantage with the slope a high scoring display on the books Scottish 0 - 5 Knights The Donny lads starting to gel and work their magic Nottingham 4 - 1 Tight game, home advantage takes the call Pirates 5 - 1 Hartpury I think this is a tough game if Pury takes the loan players with them.
Can I take this opportunity to wish you all a Very Merry Xmas and a Healthy New Year

Old Gold, I don't think I have seen a 4-2 prediction before. You think Ampthill will score four or more tries and lose by 7 points or less, whilst Coventry win, but do not score four tries! Coventry must kick a lot of penalties then.

Nottingham’s 2021/22 Round 13 Championship Rugby match against Richmond
has been postponed.
The decision
to postpone the fixture, originally due to take place on Saturday 26th December
at 3pm, has been taken by the Rugby Football Union after Richmond reported
ongoing COVID-19 cases this week within the playing squad.
The interim
decision follows the detailed medical protocols in place to ensure that the
health and wellbeing of all players and support staff is protected.
The Disputes
Committee will meet soon to determine next steps.

- Coventry 4-1 Ampthill - Nicely unpredictable
- Bedford 2-5 Jersey Reds - Belter . . huge crowd gives Blues an extra 10 points but Jersey a bit more quality . . . . a close call.
- London Scottish 0-5 Doncaster . . LS improving so could be a banana skin here
- Cornish Pirates 5-1 Hartpury . . Pirates looking for revenge . . hopefully a huge crowd here too.

Predictions: Coventry 4 v 1 Ampthill - Cov have had a poor season so far but they should be able to squeak out a win here with home advantage, a prediction not made with any confidence. Bedford 1 v 5 Jersey - A huge crowd will help Blues but Jersey have a very good record at Goldington Road and have a slightly better side. London Scottish 0 v 5 Doncaster - I know Scottish have been much improved recently but if anything like the best Donny turns up then I’m very confident we will get the win with the BP. Cornish Pirates 5 v 0 Hartpury - with Ealing not playing Pirates could potentially go top depending on the result at Bedford, can’t see anything but another big win at the fortress.
------------- Donny Knights - best team in Yorkshire

Coventry 4-1 Ampthill … Good match up this. Cov not firing yet against a tough Ampthill side. A close encounter i think. Bedford 2-5 Jersey … I so wish that I could be there for this game. Huge crowd, great atmosphere (always love going to Bedford) and I predict a try fest, although weather conditions may suit the visitors more, hence my prediction. London Scottish 0-5 Doncaster … LS never gave up last week in Jersey and did score a good try, but I think that the Donny pack will dominate this game. Pirates 5-0 Hartpury … Another game that could be closer than most think, however, in their own swamp Pirates reign supreme and i can't see anything other than a solid home win.
Stay safe everyone and I would like to wish you and yours a very Merry, Safe and Peaceful Christmas and a very Happy & Prosperous New Year.

I waived off one of the Jersey "Orphans" as he left for the airport just before 8.30am. Gorgeous morning in St Ouen so should be no problem with flights. Safe journey lads do your best and come back safe - hoping for no injuries or cards for either team today and the lucky people of Bedford who pile into GR remain clear with only one line on their LFT. Congratulation to Henry Peck on his game with Cov, not sure if he came off the bench, but it is always good to beat your old side.
Cov, I know we broke Jimmy Martin, but please do not break Peck.

Blues ATT 4,004. Or was a sell out although it appears a number of people didn’t go due to COVID self isolations.
Blues were certainly helped by the 16th man.

Well done Bedford 28 19 ft | Fully agree a cracking contest but Blues half backs were exceptional and Jersey had no plan B if the grind it out in the forwards falls short. The yellow cards were critical but I had no problem with them and imo the home team deserved the win. Safe journey home lads and enjoy the week off with your families.
------------- Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

Another good entertaining game between the two.
I think the 2nd yellow was a little harsh, but was given after the 1st and an excited crowd.
As mentioned above the Jersey backs apart from 13 didn’t offer any real threat. Lemming kicked well but was not as attacking as he was when with the Blues.
Blues maul defence was pretty good and the scrum was relatively solid, with Jersey having the edge a few more times.
Sam on the mic has been a Blues legend for years, sadly we do not see him much nowadays as he usually commentating in the Premiership for BT.

Bedford definitely had a tactic of chipping through the Jersey line today, bit of air tennis went on as well, not surprising with the dank conditions. Bedford’s first try a strong contender for try of the week again, Jersey were much stronger in the scrum for 60 mins, I thought we defended the maul from line outs pretty well. Considering that’s how Jersey scored their try’s, that’s saying something, we were under a lot of pressure in the 2nd half, with 70 mins gone it was tight at 21-19, could have gone either way till the twin yellows put Jersey down to 13 to the end of the game. A great crowd, we heard some Jersey fans too, well done them, always love a Boxing Day fixture at GR.

It seems Blues fans can predict tries! This was the final one to seal the game after Jersey went to 13.

A pretty fair assessment considering the source, they missed out how many pens Jersey gained from scrums and how dominant in this area Jersey was 🙂

Would have read it if wasn't in such a large font.
The hard of seeing can always go 'CTRL+' but I tried 'CTRL -' to no avail Squeezing the window helped, but still not an easy read unless you really want to read it.
I didn't - but what a pity
