Anyone who has listened to BBC CWR radio's rugby commentaries will have heard our John. His calm voice and exceptionally even-handed approach to his craft are a measure of the man. John broadcast on his beloved Cov for well over fifty years, and was involved with the club in various capacities for a lot longer (long before I started visiting Coundon Road in 1966) and has seen much success... and turmoil. John's retirement, while expected and richly deserved, still comes as a shock to me. He will be very, very hard to replace. Happy retirement JB (and Ann!). ------------- Our Club |

What an innings by John B. People of his standing in the game can't be replaced, I would argue, as their standing dates from another era that simply doesn't exist today. But hopefully there might be recent entrants to the arena who might eventually get somewhere close to matching him... I hope he is suitably celebrated as he picks up the mic for the last time this weekend...

Do you seriously think people who object to celebrities who constantly inflict their opinions on others on X and the like are always right wing? For your information I do not vote Tory or Reform and have sympathy for some of Lineker's views but that wasn't the point I was making of course. Perhaps it is you who should not bring your politics on here?

I entirely agree. To clarify, my post was about retiring sports journalists one of whom brought great dignity to his profession and one who in my opinion didn't. My understanding is that Mr Lineker gives the world the "benefit" of his social media opinions on very many different subjects other than football of which politics is one. I made absolutely no mention of any of these subjects and most certainly did not mention politics. Baggins chose to bring politics into the thread, seemingly to make ludicrous assumptions about my own, before bizarrely saying their is no place for politics here! You really couldn't make it up could you?
