Hi all, I was at the very entertaining Dorking/Cantabury game. Both very skillful sides. One was just alot faster and skillful than the other! As fas as I can remember, there was not 1 high tackle. No foul play. Two sides that wanted to play hard and fair. I just wonder who this new tackle law is directed at. It seems that at levels 3, 4 and 5, they know how to tackle correctly, and rarely (it seems) there are red cards issued. I would offer that it is perhaps the 'big lumps' in the premiership that arent tackling correctly. They are so big they are unable to bend their knees. I mean it must be really hard for a prop at that level. All they have to do is play for 50minutes! Surely they can bend their legs at the appropriate time! Perhaps the compromise (as many have offered) is at the chest or nipple height. That seems to fit well with health and safety of today's game! Interested, in what others think. |

Blackheath v OAs very physical game lots of hard tackles from memory zero high tackles and zero head knocks/injuries. Completely over the top reaction from the RFU ------------- So many Christians not enough Lions |

The high tackling problem is mainly at the top level so that is where the changes should be trialled ------------- RAID ON |

Nipples sounds best, and let's start penalising, not sending off, trust the ref to determine intent or degree of recklessness. Tackler more at danger than the tackled? In most cases. Problem is biggest at professional end of the game, so making it 'recreational only' was/is illogical. People opt to play rugby precisely because it is physical and rough.

Agree absolutely Sedgley Dave. The RFU are trying to justify their miserable and incompetent handling of this (and let's be honest most other issues) under their jurisdiction by throwing "conclusive data" at us. Well how about we throw some back? In brief 200+odd ex-pros involved in litigation (from a few thousand lucky enough to make a living from the game) 55 amateurs from the community game (from the millions who might get the odd few quid but generally play the game because they enjoy it) How does that "data" equate to leaving the top level as it is and Rhubarbing up the rest of us? The problem is quite clearly at the top level so sort that out first! Complete farce!
