Friday 19th March

6pm   Cov 3-3 Ealing Should be an absolute cracking match between two good sides

7.30pm   Hartpury 1-4 Donny Could go either way but I just think Donny will edge it by one score

Saturday 20th March

1.30pm   Jersey 5-2 Mond Jersey's first "home" match being played at the RAG. I wonder if Mond will claim the home dressing room. Hoping for a Jersey win but could go either way.

Sunday 21st March

12.30pm  Pirates 2-5 Blues Really hoping for a Pirates full house but they always do well when I predict them to lose at home

1pm  Amptill 4-0 Nottingham At home in the dell I fancy Amptill by 10 points

Sarries to put their feet up.

Predictions:
Coventry 0 Ealing 5 - I hope Cov can pull off a surprise but ET have started in ominous fashion
Hartpury 1 Doncaster 4 - I think Donny can get another win here. Another tight one though.
Richmond 4 Jersey 1 - It is actually a “home” game for Jersey which is being played at the RAG. I’ve put Mond’s name first because it is less confusing for me. This is a good chance for Richmond to get some points on the board.
Cornish Pirates 5 Bedford 1 - Who can stop Pirates at home at the moment, not even Saracens!. Blues are an improving outfit though so I think they’ll get something from the match. Should be a cracking game.
Ampthill 4 Nottingham 0 - I think Amps at home will be too strong for Nottingham.

Coventry 1 Ealing 4 - Ealing does much better at home, and may come unstuck.
Hartpury 4 Doncaster 1 Could go either way
Richmond 4 Jersey 1 - Mond improving and not yet reached their potential.
Cornish Pirates 4 Bedford 1 Game against Mond far closer than the score suggests. Bedford may improve further.
Ampthill 4 Nottingham 1 I really am guessing.

Coventry 1 Ealing 5 - Ealing defense has looked outstanding against Nottingham and Ampthill, but I'm guessing that they'll leak a few tries against a more professional club.
Hartpury 1 Donny 4 - Donny on a run of form.
Richmond 1 Jersey 4 - Jersey playing 'at home' in Richmond, and they'll want to show their mettle after a battering by the north Londoners.
Pirates 5 Bedford 0 - Pirates looking very dangerous, Bedford still finding their feet and won't be able to run with them in Penzance.
Ampthill 4 Nottingham 1 - Ampthill looked much more dangerous than Nottingham, even though there wasn't much in the score line.

Cov 0-5 Ealing - Ealing taking teams apart at the moment. Don’t expect them to have it all their own way or win by as much as the last few weeks but still think they’ll take full points.
Hartpury 0-4 Doncaster - Doncaster keep finding ways to grind out the wins and expect a similar story here. Might be able to get the full 5
Richmond 0-4 Jersey - Difficult to assess. Jersey seem riddled with injuries in the backs so not predicting the BP, but think they’ll have enough in the forwards for a win by circa 10
Pirates 5-1 Bedford - Bedford have a lot of injuries in the forwards and pirates pack took sarries apart. Think Pirates will win but blues can challenge if we can click and get parity in the set piece. So giving us a BP of some description.
Ampthill 4-1 Nottingham - Absolutely no yardstick for Nottingham, but I have a suspicion they will finish the season bottom. Ampthill to grind out a win. One for the purists.

Coventry 0  Ealing 5 Trailfinders on a roll, Cov to run out of steam on the hour. 7-38 prediction
Hartpury 1 Donny 4 Donny need to start putting teams away to be credible contenders, don't see them starting here though
Richmond 4 Jersey 1  Tough circumstances for Jersey this season and they'll lose a few they'd normally win because of that, this one being an example
Pirates 5 Bedford 0  Bedford doing OK so far, but expect Pirates to do a job on them.
Ampthill 4 Nottingham 1  This one is right up A's street - home fixture against an average side, hence the win

Coventry 0-5 Ealing. The Trailfinders appear to mean business this shortened season. Last week's game with Ampthill was about 50/50 possession. It's just that Ealing know how to score.
Hartpury 1-4 Doncaster. Doncaster seem to be improving steadily.
Richmond 0-4 Jersey. Jersey's experience should see them through.
Cornish Pirates 5-0 Bedford. If they can beat Saracens in Penzanze then they can beat Bedford.
Ampthill 4-1 Nottingham. I'm sad that everyone is backing the As as I like them to be the underdog, but this is one of the games they will be targetting.

Ealing 7 (1T) - Coventry 0 - Ealing score in a minute after a charge down from the opening clearance.

Ealing 7 (1T) - Coventry  5 (1T) - Coventry drove down the field with about 10 phases, then had a brilliant offload to dot down in the corner.

Posted By: gerg_861
Date Posted: 19 Mar 2021 at 18:13
Ealing 7 (1T) - Coventry  12 (2T) - Ealing committed a string of penalties to let Cov down the field, then Coventry mauled over. Coventry looking very up for it. Bobby De Wee off injured for Ealing, and they are looking much worse following that.

Posted By: gerg_861
Date Posted: 19 Mar 2021 at 18:24
Bobby De Wee wasted a break with a silly offload, then got a yellow card for an egregious seatbelt tackle. I think he'll have some time off for that.

Posted By: gerg_861
Date Posted: 19 Mar 2021 at 18:44
Ealing 12 (2T) - Coventry  12 (2T) - HT Almost immediately after De Wee came back onto the pitch, Ealing win a few penalties, then go through the phases for Will Davis to crash over.  Ealing actually swapped out their props at 38 minutes. I think a good choice, as Jonkers and Whyte didn't seem able to align their style with what Sir was looking for at the scrum.

I'm quite chuffed by the adjustments at the half. To me, this was one of Ben Ward's best coaching outings. He identified issues in the forwards in the first half, and didn't wait to give the starting props the hook early. That was rewarded with a try before the break, which gave Ealing momentum into the second half.

Following the half, they came out with energy, and ready to counter what Coventry were throwing at them. Compared to 3 years ago when Codling abandoned them just before the season and Ealing would often fall apart after the break, it was great to see Ealing get stronger in the second half. Very pleased.

Nothing like having your bogey team next to bring you back down to earth.... we hardly ever beat Pirates at Castle Park. Will be interesting if Pirates do the business against Blues on Sunday and both teams are 3 from 3 going into the game.

Edit: Looking back at the results we don’t beat Pirates very often anywhere. Our last win against them was 5 years ago!.

All I’ll say is that the last time we looked this good at the start of a season (15/16j we beat Pirates home and away!. The stats are irrelevant though really, it’s what’s happening this season that is important and we’ve got off to a fine start. I’m pretty relaxed about this season. As long as we improve game by game and win more than we lose I will be happy. Just need to take it one game at a time. Maybe we should manufacture a 35 all draw next week so that both teams get 3 points and move well clear of Saracens ClapBig smile

A huge contribution from Simon Uzokwe the Ealing number 7. He carried exceptionally well and got the team going forward. I believe he will thrive and become a real asset to the team. His energy and power in defence was clearly evident.
The Coventry first half performance gave Ealing a wake up call . The move to change both Ealing props shifted the game late in the first half.

Far too much youth, and far too little experience in that Cov side for a game where the opposition have a bench of that quality (not to mention the starting 15).
There was no way they were going to sustain it for 80, or even 60.
Proud of their first-half performance though.

Here here Steve, gave them plenty to think about in that first 40 minutes that Cov shaded.
The depth in the Ealing squad & the manner in which they responded shone through like a beacon.
From a Cov perspective for the young squad, the best 40 minutes so far this season & then plenty to learn from as Ealing pressed the advance button

As a neutral it was ten pounds well spent. Cov performed extremely well in the first half then just fell apart. As others have pointed out, the change of props made a big difference. Ealing has a very good reservoir of talent, bought of course, and a generous sprinkling of Saffers, which is the key to success these days.
Having observed Ealing for a number of years, they are favored by artificial pitches.
I want to see them play on natural grass before I give them a good chance of promotion.
It is amusing to reflect that both teams turned to artificial pitches from appalling mud patches.

Top man enjoy the beer and the match - lets hope for a great contest with no cards or injuries for both teams and Jersey to have another full house of negative tests at the airport when they get back tonight.

Mond's overall workrate and defence easily deserved the win today but Jersey totally lacking any spark in the back line. Safe journey back lads - lots to work on.

Yes 'Mond deserved their win today. Poor first half overall by both sides, but Reds were second-best after HT & rarely looked like scoring until the very end when it was too late

Not surprised at the Richmond result they looked pretty good against Pirates last week.

Looking forward to the Pirates v Blues game, they are normally crackers.

I want you all to line up in a circle and pair up in three's alphabetically by height.

I'm not going to deny that much of Ealing's team is bought in, although last year they had a few home-grown players like Matt Cornish snaffled up by Premiership teams. I think that Ealing has been quite good in recruitment, picking up on players who have slipped through the cracks for various reasons.

What worries me is how long the money can keep up at this rate - Mike Gooley is wealthy, but he does run a travel agency during a horrible period for travel agencies. On top of that, Ealing has lost half a million of central funding, and a very lucrative tenant in Broncos, who I believe brought in half a million in revenue the year that they were in superleague.

Hopefully the academy that Ealing has set up with Brunel will allow them to have more homegrown, cheaper players come through, and the huge construction underway for the new training centre says that the Trailfinders money isn't running out anytime soon, but I do worry.

Now I'm going to watch Pirates vs. Blues on the streaming service, which TRP tells me has been profitable in the first two weeks.

It must be. I’ve been shelling out tenners  for matches I wouldn’t have traveled to watch.
As for the Broncos, they’re now at Richmond, so I expect that’ll be profitable once the current COVID-19 plague is over.

Richmonds pitch struggles without adding RL to the mix - I know LS are not playing this season but will all 3 be there next year?

Ampthill 0-7 Nottingham

Groundhog day here. Ampthill get right up to the Nottingham line, give away penalties, then find themselves defending a breakaway and conceding a try.

Who are the clowns commentating on the Pirates vs Bedford game. A yellow card for Bedford 7, having tripped over a ruck, was commented on as “well he had a choice, he made the wrong one” 😂£. I hope the first Pirate offside in the second half gets a yellow too!

Going to get messy, the Bedford kids getting out muscled which isn’t a surprise

I saw an article saying that match day was going to be Rosslyn Park until a move to Wimledon's new ground later in the year.
