What you really want is a ptichside test that costs under a pound - which is possibly even further away. If it costs more, it would only be used in the professional game, which is important as they train more and take most punishment - but such a small fraction of the playing base. ------------- Sweeney Delenda Est |

Given the development of lateral flow tests for Covid-19 and now saliva tests being developed for concussion there is hope that boffins will develop handheld/portable device(s) which can rapidly provide highly accurate results. If such device(s) can be manufactured to be affordable for deployment with paramedics then they will hopefully be affordable/available to sports clubs. But likely to be years away.

| I suspect the speed of development will depend on the investment made. The scientists doing this have been part-funded by the RFU, if there is further investment from them and World Rugby that could speed up the appearance of the pitch side test. |

I would expect interest and support from both rugby codes, the NFL, and eventually FIFA - mainly so they can all point to the development of saliva testing as how they are doing their bit towards making their sport safer.

| Anything that improves the identification of a concussion is beneficial but this needs to become simple enough to be used at all levels of the game. |
