Greetings Rugby fans from around the world and beyond for another nail biting season of National 2 Rugby.

Having said congratulations and goodbye to Sedgley Park, who were worthy winners last season, and in the other direction, we lose both Blaydon and Harrogate.
Sad au revoirs also to Chester who, due to geographical juggling, will this season be playing in National 2 West.

Welcome to Leeds and Hull from the league above, and warm greetings to the promoted duo of Billingham and Lymm.

I will provide updates from Clifton Lane on the early (2pm) game between Rotherham Titans and Billingham, and any updates from 3pm as they become available, but please feel free to update yourselves too if you are at any games, or have more updates than I am able to provide.

As always good luck to all teams. To the victors, the spoils, and to the losers, well there’s always next week:

The games this week are:

2pm :

Roth v Billingham

3pm :

Fylde v Sheff Tigers

Huddersfield v Hull Ionians

Lymm v Wharfedale

Otley v Hull

Sheffield v Leeds Tykes

Tynedale v Preston Grass.

So many close high scoring games, except Rotherham v Billingham. Hull Ionians were winners at Huddersfield.  There were numerous penalties for what are now deemed high tackles and these penalties had a big impact on the game. Maybe that’s what happened elsewhere?

I may be biased but we were penalised numerous times for high tackles. Almost as if any “standing” tackles above the waist were illegal.
In saying that, Ionians gave very few penalties away.

To be fair, the new tackle height rules will present challenges but three chats with your captain re: high tackles, is two too many.

Lots of errors from both teams made for a very entertaining match at a really impressive looking Lockwood Park.
