During the planning for Rotherham’s Centenary Season, the whereabouts of the Yorkshire Regiment trophy was discussed. The Yorkshire Derby games used to be between Rotherham, Doncaster and Leeds, in the Championship days, and were always tough battles.

This season in National 2 North there are 9 Yorkshire teams, with tense Derby matches every week.

It was proposed to the Royal Yorkshire Regiment that the trophy be re-instated for this season in National 2 North and they were delighted to support the idea. Members of the Regiment will be supporting Rotherham’s first home ‘derby’ against Huddersfield at the end of the month, and Lt. Colonel O’Kelly will be joining Rotherham for another derby game later on in the season.

We have approached all the Yorkshire Clubs to suggest that they invite the Regiment to a derby game in the same way and so you may see members of the Regiment at other venues.

Last weekend saw 3 derby games, with Hull Ionians currently topping the table. With 4 more derby games this weekend everyone, apart from Huddersfield, get the chance to earn some points in this competition.

By next weekend I will have figured out how to link to the table!
