Here is my biased one eyed view from todays match at Worthing
Well another tough game where Worthing pushed us all the way. We were quite sloppy and disjointed in the first half but it was pretty amazing that sir took so long to go to his pocket (38 mins) I think the penalty count by Worthing was around 12-14 including a deliberate knock down it seemed every breakdown was finished by a penalty. It sort of changed in the second half with a further 2 cards but not sure if one should have been red with clear contact by a shoulder in the face couple of other poor decisions by officials 50-22 given to Worthing when the kicker was around 5 metres inside the club half but luckily nothing resulted from the line out however scrum on the halfway line AR puts in 6 blue hands in the scrum ref doesn’t hear or ignores and Worthing fine back play & score. Still without the officials we don’t have a game. Not sure if there were a few harsh words in the dressing room at half time but a different Club team took the pitch in the second half and were very direct and physical and controlled the field well and I think the only visit by Worthing into the Club 22 was when they scored. Was pretty nervous about this one all week and glad to get it out of the way and leave with 5 points. Means we open up a 9 point gap over Dorking who will hopefully come unstuck next week at Worthing (please) and a 5-0 takes them back to second place with plenty still to play for. We have 7oaks at home next week in which will be another tough Kent Derby

A rather myopic view IMO (and many others around me) Sir seemed intent on penalising Worthing - 3 YC against the home side with none against Blackheath seemed disportionate. However, I would say Blackheath were the best organised side I have seen this season and must be favourites to gain promotion. |

Haha
Well Rabbie never has your opening line of “here is my biased one eyed view” been more appropriate. To my own “biased” eyes the result could have gone either way right up to the end. One thing I and others did note was the constant football style haranguing of the officials. Not a particularly attractive trait. I would recommend ear plugs to any future teams of officials.

Read the first line Raider it is biased in my favour it’s not a match report
Personally I thought Sir was quite lenient given the penalty count. Just because one team gets yellow cards doesn’t mean the other should. I think on another day one of the yellows would have been red, (shoulder to face).

oh dear Rabbie !!! Most will understand the context of your post and I would have hoped you could understand the context of my reply, which was designed to be equally “biased” and “one eyed” Perhaps being top of the league has blunted your sense of humour a tad ??? Anyway, for the record Blackheath are clearly proving to be the best team in the league, leaving the rest of us to fight over a meaningless (RFU inflicted), apart from bragging rights, silver medal. Match Report from Dorking Westcliff
Over the years there have been some exiting and close fought contests between our two clubs, not least the one back in April 2016 where a Westcliff victory at their old Southend Airport location sealed Dorking’s relegation from what was then the National 2 South league. With Westcliff having declined to play the original fixture back in early December today’s match was therefore eagerly anticipated despite a number of first team regulars being absent on what was originally designated to be a ‘reserve’ weekend. In the end showing the depth that currently exists in the senior section of the club, Dorking scored what is believed to be a club record number of points (not even the oldest of the club’s venerable ‘Oldies’ could recall a greater haul) as they ran away with the game.
A depleted Westcliff battled hard and to their credit never gave up but were unable to stem the flood as Dorking ran in 16 unanswered tries. With an in-form Toby McRae scoring seven, (also believed to be a club record) Cam Cowell running in four and Henry Anscombe and Fraser Mosley one apiece it was a day for the backs to savour. Not to be left out the forwards were also well represented on the score sheet with Jonny Ellis, Jasper King and Captain Fred Dalton getting one apiece. Fourteen Anscombe conversions iced the cake.
Westcliff started the match well enough keeping the ball in the Dorking half and keeping hold of the ball. However, once they got their hands on it, Dorking turned the screw and forward domination in both the set piece and the loose gave scrum half Mikey MacDonald an armchair ride and allowed stand in fly half George Jackson to distribute the ball at will in what became the pattern for the afternoon. This, combined with tenacious tackling and defence from all fifteen denied Westcliff any further meaningful possession or go forward momentum. It wasn’t until the 54th minute that they troubled the scoreboard after a Dorking scrum infringement gave them a penalty within kicking range, slotted neatly by scrum half Dylan Sykes. Thereafter Dorking reasserted their grip on the game, running in four further tries taking the score to 108-3 at the final whistle.
We wish Westcliff well as they go through what is clearly a difficult period and will see them again towards the end of the season over in deepest Essex for the return match. I am certainly looking forward to visting Worthing next week in what should be a high scoring match if conditions are like they were on Saturday. Bring it on! |

As a neutral at Worthing here are my thoughts
Blackheath certainly were the better side on the day well organised and their passing was crisper I thought the Blackheath NO 9 had a good game Worthing took their chances well but you really cannot expect to win if you have 3 yellow cards A good day out and always great hospitality at Worthing

No Mark, was called back by Ealing last year just before the deadline and I don’t know where he is this year unless playing for Ealing academy only but haven’t heard him mentioned anywhere
